DJ Olsta
A small town choir boy from the rural Southwest, a young & naive Oli P had his first 1210 encounter at the ripe age of 15, soon after which he started making plans to get his hands on his own pair. Once the saving was accomplished, he never looked back.
Adoring most aspects of music, Oli’s love affair with electronic musicbegan at a young age. Experimenting with a huge range of music, starting with commercial house & trance, bouncing over the harder stuff, drum n bass, funky/jackin house, breakbeat, techno, you name it he’s probably had a dabble in it.
Early influences being Ben McGowan (a fellow Torquinian), Kev Walters, Tony de Vit, Graham Gold, the Tidy DJ’s, Steve Thomas, Goldie, London Elektricity, Roni Size, Calibre, High Contrast and anything on Hospital Recordings, it was big names like Danny Rampling, Carl Cox & Pete Tong that were the pioneers in inspiring Oli to start spinning at a young age and since then his tastes have expanded.
Now his musical interests lie with Progressive, Tech House, Electro and Breaks, but he�ll also dabble in the funkier stuff from time to time. More recently the work of such DJs/producers like Deadmau5, Sebastian Leger, EDX, Chris Lake, Pryda, D. Ramirez, D.O.N.S., Wolfgang Gartner, Thomas Gold, Dabruck & Klein, Axwell, The Aston Shuffle, Crookers, Mickey Slim, Stupid Fresh, Miles Dyson, Krafty Kuts and Eddie Halliwell… these artists have really inspired Oli to progress & succeed.
Due to work & other commitments over the years the music had to take a back foot, but after a lot of hard work on the DJ front, all the effort is now starting to pay off. Resident at The Blush Lounge in Plymouth for his own night Funkin Fresh and having also associated with ‘Breed’ & ‘FiftyPointFour’ events in surrounding area, the Surf’s Up Festival in Newquay and the FNUK events in Weymouth, Oli’s ready and wanting more. A recent excursion to Thailand and the oppertunity to play at Phuket’s main nightclub Clublime and also at a full moon party on Phi Phi was an experience to say the least, but ultimately initiated his career on an international front.
Concentrating on producing in 2009, his first track should be out in the coming months (once he gets this degree out the way!)… so do watch this space!
