DJ Neon
DJ Neon (aka Chris) started DJing in 1997 in Kent. Together with school friend T-Ray, they formed TwinBeat in the early 90′s, and started playing at parties and pubs in South-East London and Kent. TwinBeat are still going today, and have a dedicated website at www.twinbeat.com.
In 1997 DJ Neon became the first DJ to play house music on Mystery FM in London – at the time this was a pirate radio station which solely played garage & underground music, however more people were commenting on the uplifting sounds of funky & disco house. He would continue to produce tapes for the station for the rest of the year.
DJ Neon then moved to Brighton while studying at uni, and started playing at a number of bars. He won a DJ competition with a local radio station in 1998, and was invited to play at the launch of a new bar “The Beach”.
In 2001 DJ Neon moved to Reading and continued as a bedroom DJ, producing CDs and playing at parties. In October 2005 he attended a night co-hosted by SS-Radio, an Internet based radio station specialising in house music, and uploaded a demo CD to the station. From January 2006 and until the present day, he has been a regular DJ on the station, currently hosting “Neon Nights” every other Monday.
In January 2006 he helped to set up a local clubbing community in Reading with a friend, called “Back Once Again”, as at the time there was no group for the Reading area. From here DJ Neon started to appear as a regular name in Reading clubs, associated with the Back Once Again (BOA) group. The group started off small, but had risen to over 300 members by the end of 2006.
DJ Neon has played alongside DJs such as Jesse James, Mark Masters, Doobie J, TNT, Kingpin, Rudeboy Rupert and Aaron Ross from Soul Heaven. He is a big advocate of local DJs and is always keen to promote nights such as Citrus Sound and Casafunk/Lifted. DJ Neon can also be found playing at London’s notorious “Connected” events when on tour in Reading at Bar Mango.
